Steve Chang, Senior Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis
Can you tell us about your work at Oncopeptides?
I manage the budget of Oncopeptides and work with all of our teams to ensure their results are on target. I particularly enjoy creating financial processes and workflows that impact the success of the company. Starting with the fundamentals, my team set in place many of the financial processes here in the United States for what I now consider to be a well-oiled machine. This type of work is invigorating to me. It is gratifying to know that my department’s work has an impact on every part of the company.
How does it feel to be one of the first staff members at the company?
I started as a consultant at Oncopeptides when there were less than 20 people who worked here in the U.S. In the very beginning, we all wore a lot of hats, and I did everything in finance. Since that time, our department has grown to 7 staff members here in the U.S. Oncopeptides is still a very fun, inspiring place to work.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
Watching our team grow has been amazing! The close collaboration between all departments and with our global partners is unparalleled in the industry. Moreover, communication is valued throughout the company, so we are aware of what other departments are doing, and any news is readily shared.
How would you describe the culture at Oncopeptides?
Oncopeptides is a company that places a premium on big ideas, which works quite well for those who have an entrepreneurial spirit. In one year, we have essentially built an organization and launched a drug to help people with late stage multiple myeloma. Everyone is moving rapidly and working toward common goals. For those who want to make a difference, Oncopeptides offers a chance to grow, contribute and be part of a larger vision.
What would you say to someone considering joining the company?
Working here is a chance to build a worthwhile career, whether you are starting out or well established in your respective field.
